Ship building is in our genes. Royal Niestern Sander, therefore, is a leading shipbuilder in the field of merchant shipping and inland shipping. We design and build a variety of ships. Because of our passion for shipbuilding, the yard is a true trendsetter in the field of innovation in shipbuilding and as a designer and builder of a variety of advanced and special purpose vessels, including chemical tankers, research vessels, offshore vessels, tugs, ice breaking support multipurpose vessels.

Facilities

Royal Niestern Sander is a versatile and modern yard. Therefore we have the following ship building facilities:

  • An inner dike location, including several large production halls for the construction of ship up to 150 meters in length and 16 meters in width.

  • An outer dike dock location suitable for the construction and assembly of ships with a maximum length of 160 meters and a width of 23 meters

Design, support and engineering can be offered in-house. Niestern Sander is also a member of Conoship International BV, a cooperative marketing, design and advice center for the northern Dutch shipyards.

Track record ship building

Conversion supply vessel 'KASTEELBORG' into walk to work vessel

The Blue Queen arrived in Delfzijl from Norway in late 2017. This standard PX121 Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) then spent the next 12 weeks being whipped into shape by Dutch shipyard Royal Niestern Sander, working on behalf of Wagenborg Offshore. Converted into a dedicated Walk-to-Work Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel, the PSV – renamed the Kasteelborg – was delivered on schedule in March 2018. It was a challenging conversion project in which time and planning played a major role.

Refit project for the "ARCTIC SUNRISE'

Over an intense nine-month period, Royal Niestern Sander Shipyard firmly took on the Arctic Sunrise in a refit project. During the extensive overhaul, nearly all of the accommodation and work areas of this Greenpeace vessel were renewed, granting the vessel at least another 15 years of service. Director Bart Volgers looks back on this successful project.

Conversion icebreaker 'SERKEBORG' into diving support vessel

The offshore support vessel Serkeborg, sailing in the Wagenborg Offshore fleet, will play a crucial role during subsea diving- and maintenance work at an oil terminal. For this long term contract, Wagenborg Offshore commissioned Royal Niestern Sander to convert Serkeborg into a so called diving support vessel. At the yard, Marc van Dijk gives an insight into this project.
