Maintenance for 88 m walk-to-work offshore vessel

In November 2017, Niestern Sander Ship Repair welcomed ‘Windea La Cour’, a purpose-built walk-to-work, Service Operation Vessel (SOV) for the offshore wind industry. After two years of operations at offshore wind farm Gemini, ‘Windea La Cour’ arrived  at Niestern Sander Ship Repair in Delfzijl for a large diversity of activities

Convenient and efficient

These activities included several repair and modifications works on several parts of the offshore vessel. The boat landing sliding construction had to be repaired. Also the sewage pumps, piping and the hypdrohpor system on board needed some modifications. Further, the engineering department of Niestern Sander Ship Repair designed in close consultation with the client modifications to the deck area to grant a flush and better access from the elevator to the Uptime motion compensated offshore gangway.

The ideal shipyard for the job

Niestern Sander Ship Repair is strategically located near the German Bight, where many offshore wind farms are situated. With the vessel due to return to offshore wind farm Gemini immediately after the work was completed, the choice for the shipyard was evident. It was essential that no time was wasted and everyone involved worked efficiently and effectively. Extra long shifts were worked when needed and on occasions activity continued around the clock to ensure that progress remained on schedule.

Niestern Sander Ship Repair is particularly well-suited for this type of complex project. Not only is the workforce highly skilled and experienced, the shipyard also has extensive craneage on its berths and space on the quays for the largest mobile cranes. Also Niestern Sander Ship Repair has floating docks upto 176 meters in length. However, during the course of the works, ‘Windea La Cour’ did not have to be drydocked.

A beautiful vessel

The ‘Windea La Cour’ is the first in a series of service operation vessels for Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement GmbH & Co. KG. Niestern Sander Ship Repair is proud to have serviced this walk to work vessel. Kris Klasens, project manager at Niestern Sander Ship Repair: “Last year we visit the Windea La Cour for the first time from our service facility in Eemshaven. After some minor works before, we are now proud to welcome her in Delfzijl for maintenance works”.
