Cutter suction dredger Charlock visits for repairs

Commissioned by Van den Herik, the trailing suction hopper dredger‘Charlock’ underwent an intensives programme of maintenance and repairs at Niestern Sander Ship Repair in Delfzijl.

Scope of repair activities

Repairs to ships often have to be carried out quickly and – of course – correct. Flexibility, craftsmanship and short communication lines are indispensable. That is why the Charlock arrived November 26th at the floating docks of Niestern Sander Ship Repair in the port of Delfzijl. Moored between the two docks, the dredging vessel was scheduled for several repair works in the upcoming days. Several pipes all over the vessel were molded and renewed to restore the Charlock in its original state again. All this piping was customized in the warehouse nearby the floating docks. Also, a coupling of the jet pump suction installation in the foreship had to be replaced. Finally, various small ironworks were also carried out aboard the dredging vessel. After four days the vessel left the shipyard to full satisfaction of the client.

Experience with dredging vessels

It was not the first time the Charlock visited the shipyard in Delfzijl. In 2016, Niestern Sander has been awarded by Shipyard Barkmeijer Stroobos, to assemble the complete vessel in Dock 2, measuring 176 meters in length and 27 meters in width.  Several sections of the dredging vessel were built by Niestern Sander new building department.
