Europe’s first CCS value chain becomes reality: ‘Carbon Destroyer 1’ takes centre stage in Esbjerg
Today, Europe reached a major milestone in its energy transition with the inauguration of the EU’s first fully integrated carbon capture, transportation and storage (CCS) value chain: Project Greensand. At the centre of this achievement is ‘Carbon Destroyer 1’, the first European-built offshore CO₂ carrier developed by Royal Wagenborg. This vessel completes what has long been the missing link in the CCS value chain. The milestone was celebrated at the Port of Esbjerg during the ‘First Carbon Chain’ event, attended by industry leaders, policymakers and His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark.
New 14,000 DWT EasyMax vessel 'ARIANE' delivered to Wagenborg
Today, shipyard Royal Niestern Sander handed over yard number 855 to Wagenborg. This sixth Easymax vessel will be taken into operation as m.v. Ariane and marks as another milestone in Wagenborg’s fleet renewal strategy.
Carbon Destroyer 1 set sail to Esbjerg after successful sea trials
The Carbon Destroyer 1, Europe’s first offshore DP2 CO₂ carrier, has left her home port Delfzijl after she successfully completed two sea trials in the North Sea. With these tests concluded, the vessel moves a decisive step closer to its upcoming deployment to Esbjerg, where it will become part of Project Greensand’s offshore CO₂ storage chain, led by INEOS Energy.
First ring section of next generation fuel flex EasyMax 2.0 transported
On Monday 9 February, the first ring section of Wagenborg’s new generation EasyMax 2.0 vessels was moved outside the construction hall. This marks the first visible step in the assembly of the fuel flex ships currently being built for Wagenborg, following the keel laying of six EasyMax 2.0 vessels earlier this year.
First European-built CO₂ carrier receives its deck hatches at Wagenborg terminal in Delfzijl
The construction of the first CO₂ carrier built in Europe has reached a significant stage with the installation of its deck hatches. These hatches now cover and protect the CO₂ tanks, which are designed to transport approximately 5,000 tonnes of liquid CO₂.
Transport aft ship section EasyMax 6 marks next step in newbuilding for Wagenborg
The aft ship section of yard number 855 was safely and succesfully transported from the construction hall to the quay side at shipyard Royal Niestern Sander in Delfzijl. This vessel, under construction as EasyMax 6, is being built for Wagenborg and is scheduled for delivery in the summer of 2026.
