Conversion project Walk to Work vessel started

Last week, the ‘Blue Queen’ arrived in the port of Delfzijl for a major conversion project. Upon arrival, the offshore vessel moored between the two floating docks of shipyard Royal Niestern Sander. Here, the vessel will be converted from a standard platform supply vessel to a walk to work emergency response and rescue vessel: W2W ERRV.

Scope of conversion project

The conversion of the DP2 vessel ‘Blue Queen’ is thoroughly engineered by a close cooperation between the Wagenborg Projects & Newbuilding department and shipyard Royal Niestern Sander. The major conversion of this offshore supply vessel into a walk to work emergency response and rescue vessel comprises the following items:

  • expanding the accommodation facilities by installing an additional accommodation and emergency response unit on deck
  • installation of a motion compensated gangway system
  • installation of a heave compensated crane
  • installation of daughter craft and fast rescue craft
  • manufacturing and installation of hose reels for chemical transport

The conversion at the Niestern Sander shipyard will take approximately 11 weeks.
