Niestern Sander recently contracted the conversion work for two 9000tdw general cargo vessels. The conversion consists of the removal of the bulbsection and the construction and installation of a Mayer form stem, the construction and installation of two crane pedestals in the sides and finally the delivery and installation of the 60 tons SWL deckcranes. The contract includes the complete design and steel-engineering package from Conoship International. The construction of the new bowsection for the first vessel is already in progress, thanks to the good cooperation between the yard and the supplier of the steel parts, IHC Metalix, who delivered the first flatracks loaded with steelparts at the yard within 10 days after contract. The first vessel will arrive this month for drydocking and conversion. The second vessel will follow in the autumn of this year. In December the Liebherr cranes, specially designed for operation under arctic conditions, will be installed.
